JOB DESCRIPTION:
Instruct students of various ages in ballet at various levels. Assigned classes you will instruct will be assigned by the Dance Director, although this is primarily a Tuesday & Thursday combination. This position will begin with the dates assigned in your signed contract. The successful applicant must be available through the contract appointment dates. Ideally, this will be an ongoing employment opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Examples of Duties (These duties are a general description and are not all-inclusive)
• Select and plan class content, which may include stretching, improvisation, dance techniques, strength exercises or combinations. (Classes will include a warm up period)
• Select all music and choreography of dance combinations.
• Determine class skill and age levels and make class content adjustments as necessary.
• Assist in designing a recital program
• Attend periodic staff meetings and/or educational training.
• Provide schedule of proposed class content to Director.
• Coordinate with Director to assess dancers’ individual needs.
• Produce evaluations at midterm and at the end of semester/camp.

Other Functions:
• Participate in activities, workshops, and excursions.
• When needed, enforce safety or rules.
• Make pre-session connections to welcome students.
• Ensure students get picked up by responsible and appropriate parties.
• Meet parents/ guardians on first and last days of programs to ensure student safety.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Required
• Prior experience as a former dance student, professional dancer or teacher with at least three years of experience teaching dance.
• Five years of study with a public or private dance instructor and/or completion of a college dance program
• Ability to demonstrate basic to intermediate steps in tap, ballet, jazz or other specialty
• Excellent leadership skills including an ability to command respect and motivate achievement while working effectively with young people.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to diverse persons, and work as a team.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a self directed, prioritized and calm manner.
• Flexibility to meet changing needs and priorities as they occur.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude with and toward others

Experience choreographing for youth of varying abilities.
