Alma Dance School is seeking a creative, engaging, and supportive part-time dance instructor to teach as a member of our Children’s Division staff while actively aligning with Alma Dance School’s objectives:

Responsibilities of this role will include (but are not limited to):
-Instructing weekly Parent-tot, Pre-Ballet, Jazz and/or Tap classes to students ages 18 months through seven years old.
-Utilizing Alma Dance School’s curriculum with space for creativity, to prepare and implement activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of young dancers.
-Maintain order and a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
-Communicating frequently and promptly with the school’s directors, staff, and each dancer's parents.
-Each dance instructor is responsible for planning their weekly classes based on Alma Dance School’s Pre-Ballet curriculum.
-You are expected to arrive at the studio fully prepared and a few minutes before your assigned classes to ensure all scheduled classes can begin on time.
-Establishing a safe environment – physically and emotionally for all dancers in the classroom.
-Exuding happiness, energy, and enthusiasm throughout each class.
-Delivering quality instruction.
-Providing feedback on curriculum and students’ progress.
-Knowing and using students’ names.
-Ensuring everyone, regardless of ability or level, feels included.
-Taking occasional photos/videos of students in action to be used in the school’s monthly newsletters and/or social media feed.
-Establishing clear expectations in the classroom.
-Providing appropriate discipline in the classroom
-Preparing the dance space for students; setting up and taking down classroom equipment.
-Reporting equipment/prop malfunctions to the school’s artistic directors.
-Communicating students’ concerns and achievements to directors.
-Hosting one class that includes parents in the classroom each fall semester.
-Choreographing dances for our annual Nutcracker and Simply Classic Series Summer shows.
-Accurately maintain necessary records.
-Attending both the annual Nutcracker and Simply Classic Series dress rehearsals and performances.
Other Requirements:
Pre-Ballet dance instructors face a variety of potential challenges throughout their classes. Instructors must respond quickly and appropriately to the frequently changing needs of students. Additional skills that are needed:

Qualifications & Experience:
2+ years of teaching experience (preferably with Ballet, Jazz, and/or Tap classes)
1+ year of experience in childcare (preferably with children ages two to seven years old)
The ideal candidate will have a background in both dance and childcare. She will be a fun, creative, warm, energetic, and encouraging dance instructor. Alma Dance School instructors are expected to always be prepared and early to class. Being organized, punctual, and respectful is a must. Alma Dance School provides our instructors the curriculum, props, and essential tools for facilitating successful movement classes for young dancers.
Applicants must be able to:
-Lift up to 40 pounds
-Stand for 95% of the class time
-Assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children (kneeling, squatting, sitting on the floor, etc.)
-Sustain a high level of energy
-Perform all activities with children, i.e. jump, dance, walk, crawl, run, etc.
-Compensation:
Dance instructors are compensated based on relevant experience and ability to satisfy the job requirements. Lead instructors are paid on an hourly class basis. The rate for this role starts at $25 per hour.
